When can
I bring items in for valuation and auction?
We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. We are happy to give
free pre-sales advice.
We can also arrange home visits for larger amounts of small items and furniture.
Is there a car park?
We have a car park at the Dumfries Auction Centre, which is available
to park in when you bring items in for auction or attend an auction.
On street parking is also available.
There is ample free on-street parking at the Edinburgh Auction Centre.
How are lots catalogued?
We publish a catalogue with lot descriptions and photographs, which
is available to view on the internet. This applies to antique and
specialist sales only. Our general auctions have simple catalogue
lists.
How is payment made?
A cheque and statement are sent out three weeks from the date of the
sale.

When can I view items to be sold in the Forthcoming Auction?
Dumfries: Auctions are on view the day before the sale from 2pm – 5pm and on the morning of the sale from 9am.
Edinburgh: Auctions are on view the
afternoon of the sale from 1pm – 5pm

How do I bid at auction?
Prospective buyers must have a bidding number, which can be obtained
from reception.
How long does it take to sell the lots?
We sell between 150 and 200 lots an hour, and run in numerical order.
Please ask the office for estimated start times for the different
sections.
Can I purchase refreshments?
We have a café on sale day with hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and
cakes for purchase.
What is the buyer’s premium?
In addition to the hammer price, buyers pay 15% commission plus VAT
on this commission.
What methods of payment are accepted?
We accept cash (up to a maximum of £5,000), debit cards, credit cards
(credit cards are subject to a 3% surcharge, with VAT payable on
the surcharge) and cheques covered by a cheque guarantee card.
When
can I collect items purchased at auction?
Goods can be collected on the day of the sale, usually as soon as they
have been paid for, or within two working days of the auction. Failure
to collect after this time will incur storage charges of £5 per item
per day. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Please bring your own packing materials.
We are not able to offer a packing and shipping service, however Mail Boxes specialise in packing and shipping smaller items (under 30kg). They will collect, professionally pack and despatch your purchases by the most suitable and cost efficient method to any UK or international address.

For larger items, transport can be arranged worldwide.
Is there disabled access to the auction room?
Both auction centres are fully accessible for our less mobile visitors.
